How does watching the film version of Into the Wild change or deepen your understanding of Chris McCandless compared to reading the book? In your response, explain one key difference in how his character or experiences are presented, and connect this to a time when seeing something visually changed your understanding of a situation.

Prompt Response:   Watching Into the Wild deepens my understanding of Chris McCandless because I can see his emotions and surroundings. The film shows his facial expressions and reactions, which makes him feel more human. One key difference is that the movie shows his relationships and feelings more clearly than the book. In Into the Wild , his story is explained mostly through facts and descriptions. Seeing something visually reminds me of when watching a science experiment helped me understand it better than just reading about it. Summary:   In today's class, we read and completed chapter 13 Into The Wild. Reflection: Reflecting on this,  Visuals can make situations feel more real and easier to understand. They help people connect emotionally to what is happening.

Chris and his sister Carine McCandless had a very close relationship, even when he struggled to connect with others. Write about a relationship in your life where you feel truly understood. Explain what makes that relationship strong and how it compares to the connection between Chris and Carine in Into the Wild.

Prompt Response:   A relationship that truly understands me is the one I share with my older brother. We are eight years apart, and if someone were to compare us, it would be a stark contrast. My other brother has graduated from college, earned his bachelor’s degree, and is now helping younger children with developmental issues. These days, work keeps him occupied, and even though we don’t see each other often, we still have many good laughs over the phone. We share our personal feelings with each other, which our parents wouldn’t understand, and this strengthens our bond significantly. In a way, my relationship with my brother is almost identical to Chris and Carine’s relationship in Into The Wild.  Summary: In today's class, we read and completed chapter 12 Into The Wild Reflection: Reflecting on this, while my brother and I may not see eye to eye (literally and figuratively), I still deeply value the relationship we share. We’ve been there for each other for many yea...

Pick one of the connection based questions and answer it in your blog. Be sure to write out the question.

Prompt Response: Connection question 2, Reflect on an experience where you felt confident in your abilities. How did that confidence influence your choices or effort? Confidence made me more willing to pursue making 3-D CAD designs on an upscaled software; however, due to my inexperience and the difficulty of understanding how new tools would work for the software, each of my projects was left underwhelming. Well, I had previously worked many times with a CAD software called TinkerCAD; I have truly made very impressive things in that software. However, once required to move to something similar in premise but different in execution, I tend to get overconfident in my abilities, thus making me not perform as well as I typically would. Summary: In today's class, we performed our assignment orally and we're able to properly formulate our ideas into well-thought-out answers. Reflection: Reflecting on this, while I don’t consider myself overly confident, I frequently encounter the re...

Based on the first 40 minutes of the film and Chapters 1–11 of the book, does the visual version of Chris’s journey make his choices seem more justified or more reckless than the text does? Explain how the medium (film vs writing) shapes your perspective.

Prompt Response:   Based on the first 40 minutes of Into the Wild and Chapters 1–11 of Into the Wild , the film makes Chris’s choices seem more justified. The visuals, music, and emotional scenes make his journey feel inspiring and meaningful. The movie focuses on his feelings and sense of freedom, which builds sympathy for him. In contrast, the book by Jon Krakauer includes more facts and perspectives that make his actions seem more reckless. Overall, the film is more emotional, while the book is more analytical. Summary: In today's class, we watched the first 40 minutes of Into The Wild and a short assignment based on our discoveries. Reflection: Reflecting on this while the film portrays Chris’s choices as being justified, it becomes evident that his journey is ultimately a fool’s errand for freedom. However, the captivating visuals, music, and emotional scenes make his journey feel inspiring and meaningful, shaping many people’s perspectives about him going into...

Think about a moment when your understanding of your family changed as you got older. How did that shift impact your perspective, and how does that connect to Chris’s realization about his parents in Chapter 11?

Prompt Response:  As I grew older, I ceased to view my parents solely as individuals who are obligated to provide for me, but rather as people in their own right. While I hold my mother and father in high regards, beyond that, I cherish my entire family, there are moments when I am reminded that people are capable of making lasting emotional mistakes. They can utter words that they didn’t intend to say or commit actions that they didn’t intend to do, yet deep down, they genuinely desired to make those mistakes. There are certain flaws in the way my mother, father, and I function. However, regardless of these imperfections, I still hold them in high regard and will always do so. This parallels Chris McCandless’s perspective on his parents, as he gradually distances himself from them both physically and emotionally. Summary: In todays class, we completed another chapter of "Into The WIld" and did an assignment based on the novel. Reflection: Reflecting on this, we all make mi...

For most of you, yesterday you took the SAT. If you did not, you will take it before you leave high school. What is your desired SAT score? Identify your top three colleges and explain why each school appeals to you.

Prompt Response:  My target SAT score was at least 1100. Unfortunately, I have a slight feeling that I didn’t quite reach that mark this time. The SAT was a great practice test that gave me a good idea of what to expect when I take it again. The three top colleges that stand out to me are the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Georgia, and Kennesaw State University. What makes these colleges particularly appealing to me is their renowned engineering, computer science, and IT programs. As an aspiring mechanical engineer, I find these programs incredibly intriguing. Summary:  In today's class, we read and completed a short assignment for Chapter 7 of the “Into the Wild" novel. Reflection: Reflecting on my journey since taking the SAT, I’ve discovered an overwhelming sense of excitement for the future. Although I haven’t yet received my scores, I’m already aware of the specific topics that require my attention. I’m committed to diligently studying these sub...

Twice a year we adjust our clocks for daylight saving time, but the change can affect our sleep, energy, and daily routines. Now that we have sprung forward; reflect on how this time change impacts you personally. Do you find it easy or difficult to adjust your schedule? Explain how the time change affects your mood, productivity, or daily habits.

Prompt Response:  Due to daylight savings time, I’ve found myself in an inconvenient situation that disrupts my daily routine. While I understand the significance of daylight savings time, it significantly impacts my productivity. I end up getting less sleep because of the new time schedule. Although I’ve adapted to this change multiple times before, the constant cycle of changing time is not something I enjoy. While my productivity does experience slight fluctuations, my mood remains unchanged. As for my daily habits, they’ve remained the same without any modification. Summary: In today's class, we read and completed a short assignment for Chapter 6 of the “Into the Wild" novel. Reflection:  Reflecting on this, despite the inconvenience of the time change, I realize that it won’t take long before I get used to the new schedule. The initial phase is always challenging, but with persistence, it becomes easier to adapt.

In Chapter 5 of Into the Wild, McCandless is strongly influenced by writers like Jack London, whose stories shape the way he thinks about adventure and wilderness. Has a book, song, musician, or artist ever influenced the way you think about life, goals, or the world around you? Identify the specific book, song, musician, or artist and explain how their ideas or message affected your thinking.

Prompt Response:  The musician that has influenced my life the most is the music group Earth, Wind, and Fire. Throughout all the songs that I have listened to, I've gathered one specific piece of information, and that is the fact that life is a gift. A gift that mustn't be taken for granted and a gift that should be utilized well. Their songs, such as "Fall in Love with Me" and "Side by Side," are songs that have constantly repeated the same message of unity and love. And that is the message that I do my very best to share with others. Summary: In today's class, we read and completed an assignment based on Chapter 5 of the "Into the Wild" novel. Reflection: Reflecting on this, I deeply enjoy listening to Earth, Wind, and Fire’s music. They are artists that have not only shaped the industry of how we listen but how we think as a whole.
