Chris and his sister Carine McCandless had a very close relationship, even when he struggled to connect with others. Write about a relationship in your life where you feel truly understood. Explain what makes that relationship strong and how it compares to the connection between Chris and Carine in Into the Wild.
Prompt Response: A relationship that truly understands me is the one I share with my older brother. We are eight years apart, and if someone were to compare us, it would be a stark contrast. My other brother has graduated from college, earned his bachelor’s degree, and is now helping younger children with developmental issues. These days, work keeps him occupied, and even though we don’t see each other often, we still have many good laughs over the phone. We share our personal feelings with each other, which our parents wouldn’t understand, and this strengthens our bond significantly. In a way, my relationship with my brother is almost identical to Chris and Carine’s relationship in Into The Wild.
Summary: In today's class, we read and completed chapter 12 Into The Wild
Reflection: Reflecting on this, while my brother and I may not see eye to eye (literally and figuratively), I still deeply value the relationship we share. We’ve been there for each other for many years, and that bond will continue for many more years to come.
