What strategies have you and your group used to ensure that all members are actively contributing to group assignments? Explain how you communicate, divide responsibilities, and hold each other accountable throughout the process.

Prompt Response:  To ensure that all members are actively contributing, our group focuses on clear communication and shared decision-making. We regularly discuss our progress and challenges, which helps everyone stay involved and aware of what needs to be done. When dividing responsibilities, we take a logical approach by assigning tasks based on the amount of work and each person's strengths, while keeping the workload balanced. If we encounter multiple strong options, we collaborate as a group and sometimes vote to make efficient, fair decisions. This system helps hold everyone accountable because each person has a clear role, and our ongoing communication ensures that no one falls behind. Summary: Today we finished refining our sources and submitted them. Reflection: Reflecting on this approach, it demonstrates strong communication and teamwork. It ensures that everyone is involved and held accountable within our group.

What challenges did your group face while selecting and analyzing sources, and how did you overcome them? Be specific about how your group communicated and worked through disagreements.

Prompt Response: The challenges we faced while selecting and analyzing sources were either a lack of information, an overwhelming amount of information, or simply struggling to choose between multiple highly credible sources. To overcome this obstacle, we took a logical approach and selected a source that provided a reasonable amount of information without being excessively lengthy. While this method proved to be effective for a time, it became evident that it was not sustainable. Therefore, when we encountered multiple excellent sources, we had a collaborative discussion to determine the most suitable one for our assignment. We then conducted a vote to make our decision. This process of communication and voting not only saved us valuable time on the assignment but also ensured that we made an informed choice based on the strengths and weaknesses of the available sources. Summary: In today's class, we continued refining and working on our sources for our research assignment. Ref...

Reflect on your research topic and identify the most compelling issue connected to it. Clearly explain what the issue is and discuss why you find it particularly interesting or important. Support your response with specific details from your research.

Prompt Response:  The most compelling issue and the debate between cancer, culture, and freedom of speech is where to draw the line between accountability and censorship. Cancel culture can hold people responsible for harmful words or actions, but it can also shut down open discussion by discouraging people from sharing different opinions. I find this very important because freedom of speech is a core right to every individual, yet it can conflict with the need to protect individuals and groups from harm. For example, research shows that public backlash on social media has led to people losing jobs or reputations quickly, sometimes without full context or due process. This issue matters because society has to balance protecting free expression while promoting respect and fairness. Summary: In today's class, we went more in depth on our research topic. Reflection: Reflecting on this, I believe there should be a delicate balance between freedom of speech and cancel culture. Bo...

Political cartoons often use exaggeration and symbolism to make a point, and they can also serve as important visual sources for analysis. What is being criticized in this image? What does this source suggest about the issue, and what does the cartoonist want the audience to question or reconsider?

Prompt Response: The cartoon is criticizing President Trump and how attention is being distracted from domestic issues. It suggests that shouting about foreign conflicts, like Iran attacking Israel, pulls focus away from problems at home. The elephant labeled “Big Beautiful Bill” represents a major political issue being ignored (because of Trump). The ICE officer attacking Uncle Sam suggests harm being done to American values and people (because of Trump). The cartoonist wants the audience to question whether leaders are distracting the public from important domestic problems. Summary: In today's class, we finished developing specific keywords and sentences for our research questions. Reflection: Reflecting on this cartoon, we see how political leaders may shift attention to foreign events instead of dealing with issues at home. It leads us to think about how important it is to pay attention to the people who claim to be doing good, because simply put, our actions speak louder th...

Think about how you have searched for information in the past compared to what you practiced today. How is creating specific search phrases different from just “Googling” a topic? Explain how this strategy will improve the quality of your research.

Prompt Response:   Creating specific search phrases is different because it uses clear keywords instead of broad searches. Just Googling a topic can bring up too many unrelated results. Specific phrases help narrow down the information to what I actually need. This strategy improves research by making sources more accurate and relevant. It also saves time by reducing the need to search over and over. Summary: In today's class, we developed keywords and phrases we would use to research our questions. Reflection: Reflecting on this, using keywords in general, gives a more tailored response rather than having something just similar to what you're asking for. Researching a topic must be specific, direct, and straight to the point.

Your research question is designed to explore a complex issue. What makes this topic difficult to answer or solve? Identify at least two different perspectives or factors related to your topic and explain why understanding multiple viewpoints is important.

Prompt Response:   This topic is difficult because people disagree on what counts as free speech and what counts as harm. One perspective is that free speech should be protected, even if opinions are unpopular. Another perspective is that cancel culture can hold people accountable for harmful words or actions. Social media and public pressure also make conflicts spread quickly and become more intense. Understanding multiple viewpoints is important because it helps people find fair solutions and respect different opinions. Summary: In today's class, we developed our research questions for our project. Reflection: Reflecting on this  freedom of speech versus cancel culture is a complicated issue with strong opinions on both sides. Listening to different viewpoints can help people better understand the issue and make fair decisions.

Reflect on your past experiences with research in school. What challenges have you faced when working independently or in a group, and how did you handle them? Explain how those experiences will influence the way you approach this current research project.

Prompt Response:   When working in a group, the primary challenge I often encounter is finding a balance between work, productivity, and time. In every group I’ve been a part of, there’s been a noticeable amount of time spent brainstorming rather than putting our ideas into action. While brainstorming is an essential part of any project, especially research, it’s crucial that we effectively manage our time. To address this, I intend to approach this research project with the mindset of working a real job and earning money from it. Summary:    In today's class, we started a research group project for different topics. Reflection:  Reflecting on this, I am confident that I will avoid repeating the same mistakes I have made in balancing work, productivity, and time. Instead, I will strive to make these aspects work seamlessly together with my group members in an efficient manner.

If you could plan the perfect spring break with no limitation, money, time, or responsibilities—what would it look like? Where would you go, who would you bring, and what would you do?

Prompt Response:  With no limitations, such as time, money, or responsibilities, I would make my spring break last forever. First, I would use a very large sum of money to not only buy my parents, older brother, and grandparents a new home, but I would also buy one for myself. Then I would convince my family to move to the UK to obtain new and better jobs. Once we have reached our desired location, I would spend the first two weeks with my family seeing the tourist attractions in the UK. And then finally, I would finish out my senior year of high school in the UK and my four years in college. Summary: There was nothing to report for this day in Advanced American Literature. Reflection:   Reflecting on this, I’m determined to make this dream a reality. While there will undoubtedly be significant deviations from my initial plan, with the help of God, I’ll strive to support my parents and family in living a better life.

McCandless set out to live independently in the wilderness, but his death reveals the harsh reality of nature and survival. In your blog post, analyze how his desire for independence contributed to his death. Then, connect this idea to your own life by explaining a time when you wanted complete independence or control over a situation. Did things go as planned, or did you face unexpected challenges?

Prompt Response:  Chris McCandless’s desire for independence led him to travel into the wilderness alone. He refused much help and supplies because he wanted to prove he could survive on his own. This choice contributed to his death because he was not fully prepared for the harsh conditions. His independence gave him freedom, but it also increased the risks he faced. This shows that wanting total independence can sometimes lead to dangerous consequences. Summary: In today’s class, we read and finished the entire book “Into The Wild” and its movie adaptation. Reflection: One instance when I wanted complete control was when I attempted to complete an engineering project independently. However, I encountered unforeseen challenges that demonstrated the value of seeking help, even when it may be initially resisted.
