Dickinson uses the metaphor of a funeral to describe her inner struggles. What metaphor would you use to describe your own mind?

Prompt Response:  A metaphor I would use to describe my mind would be a beautiful masterpiece. Although even saying that doesn't give my mind justice. We are the most intelligent beings on this planet because of our brilliant minds. Some things in the past that we never thought to be possible became possible through us. Every mind is beyond a beautiful masterpiece. Summary: Today in class, we continued working on identifying the themes in different stories. Reflection: Our minds are breathtaking masterpieces that surpass any depiction due to their brilliance. Our intelligence has unlocked the impossible, and will continue to do so for many years to come.

Write about an adventure you would like to go on.

Prompt Response:  I would like to go on an adventure to Florida. Exploring beaches, theme parks, and wildlife makes me excited. I want to have new experiences, see new places, and try new things. And while I have already been to Florida once, I never truly go to experience a true adventure. I can’t wait to pack my bags and go. Summary: Today we identified the themes of different stories in class.  Reflection: Identifying the themes of these different stories is interesting. However, it was good practice for what's to come in the future.

Describe something you will never fully understand.

Prompt Response: One thing I will never be able to fully understand is math. Despite how much I go over it and study it, it is a very hard subject for me to tackle. On top of this, math changes, and it will never truly stay the same. There are many things that math requires us to learn and grasp onto, and that makes learning new things very difficult. As humans, we have the power to adapt to both good and bad circumstances for a long enough time, but learning new things in such a short period and then having to learn more new things on top of that makes it all the more trickier to understand.   Summary: Today in class, we presented our digital origin myth posters.  Reflection: Creating the digital origin of poster was a very fun and engaging assignment. I only wish that I had more time to clean up my presentation and fix all its errors.

Write about something that you wish you had more of.

Prompt Response:  The one thing I wish I had more of would have to be time. I wasted so much time blaming myself for things beyond my control. Some things in this world are beyond our reach, and that was something I struggled to accept in the past. Whenever I made a mistake or messed up something, I would relentlessly criticize myself. I focused on the negative aspects rather than the positive ones, which made me anxious and depressed. However, those days are behind me, and despite my wish for more, I already have everything I could ever want. Summary: Today in class, we continued working on our digital poster for origin myth assignment. Reflection:  Time is a thing that we cannot get back in this world. And that's why we must value it and live a life of purpose, growth, and love.

What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work.

Prompt Response:    The most creative thing I've ever made was a pipe cleaner stick man action figure. Growing up, I loved action figures. And there was one particular action figure that I saw online that I greatly desired. It was a metallic blue Mega man action figure with multiple accessories and magnetic feet. However, due to how pricey it was, my parents weren't able to get it for me. Due to this, I took it upon myself to make my own action figure.      Summary: Today in class, we finished writing our own origin myth story and discussed making a poster for it. Reflection: Making something from nothing is what I strive to do; like with that pipe cleaner stick man action figure I made. It represents my creativity and imagination in one small package.

Everyone has burning questions about life. Mysteries we wonder about but don’t always have clear answers for. Think about your biggest questions about existence, purpose, or the world around you. Write a blog post where you share at least two of your most burning questions about life and explain why these questions matter to you.

Prompt Response: The biggest question I have when thinking about existence is why do human beings love or thrive off of negativity? I understand that there’s good and bad in this world, but some people like to spread more bad than good. I also understand that a good cannot exist without evil, but people tend to actively look for evil and reside within it. It saddens me, and while people would make the excuse of “that’s just the way the world works”, it doesn’t have to be. We are the ones who actively choose to do it. This world is like our canvas, and we actively choose what we put on that canvas, whether good or bad. Summary: Today in class, we started creating are own Native American origin myth. Reflection: While creating our own Native American origin myth in class, it was a very fun and enlightening exercise. This assignment has helped me go further into my own creativity and imagination. This is a very engaging assignment.

Describe a time you felt completely lost.

Prompt Response:   This summer, I applied for a customer facing position at apple. Unfortunately, I didn't get the job. And it wasn't because I did anything wrong, it was because I was too young and still in high school. However, despite knowing the truth about why I wasn't accepted into the role, I was still very devastated. I constantly felt that I wasn't good enough for the position, and I was very depressed towards the end of the summer.  Summary: Today we presented our jealous father assignment in class. Reflection: Despite the nervousness I had when presenting in class, I forced myself to let go of It. I have a tendency to overthink and to focus on the worst possible scenarios. But, I'm slowly learning  to overcome that internal struggle.

Analyze how you’ve adapted to the demands of this course over the past week, and evaluate one strength and one challenge you anticipate as we progress, justifying your insights with personal examples.

Prompt Response:   I have adapted to the demands of this literature course over this past week by participating consistently. Coming into class on time. And consistently paying attention in class. One strength that will become more prominent as the course progresses is my reading capabilities. And one weakness that will become more prominent as this course progresses is my writing capabilities. Summary:  During class, we took an origin myth assessment and worked on our group project. Reflection:   Over this past week, we have discussed the origins of literature and how it all started with Native Americans. We discussed the kind of myths they would tell and the logic behind them. Overall, this is a very interesting class, and throughout this course, I look forward to becoming more knowledgeable in literature.

Describe a real-life situation in which jealousy negatively affected a relationship you experienced.

Prompt Response: In elementary school, I was friends with a person named Alex, and we always played soccer together at recess. One day, I got picked to be team captain, and many kids cheered for me. However, Alex felt jealous. Instead of continuing to play soccer with us, Alex ignored me and played with another group. I felt hurt and stopped inviting Alex to play during recess. And our friendship slowly faded, all because of his jealousy. Summary: Due to today being a block day, there was no Literature class today. Reflection: Reflecting on this story, jealousy can make us treat our friends and people in general unfairly. Small actions can hurt a relationship in big ways. And it’s better to celebrate each other’s successes than compete against them.

Write about a meaningful object or place in your life that carries a story.

Prompt Response:   The Bible is a very significant thing in my life. It is literally the reason for my existence. And while that may seem like a big exaggeration, I have spent years growing closer, and simultaneously moving away from God. But the determination I feel in becoming a faithful steward to him is leading me to become a better person for myself, the people I love, and most importantly, the Lord. And when I see and hear scripture, it fills me with understanding and makes me whole. Summary:   Today in class, we read and discussed a Navajo Creation Myth. Reflection: The Navajo Creation Myth helped me to understand the thought process behind Native American myths. It also helped me to understand its cultural significance and how it impacts the modern world today. Many things would be different if myths weren’t a thing.

Write about a time you felt connected to nature, like the kinship in Native American myths.

Prompt Response:  I had a dream about sitting in a massive pool at the edge of a cliff in near a forest. This dream however, felt extremely life like. While sitting in this pool, I saw many trees and many deer to my left and right staring at me. And I vividly remember the pool having built in lights, making the experience all the more wonderful. Despite this scenario not being physical, that dream made me feel very at peace and one with nature. Summary:  Today in class, we read and discussed Native American Literature. Reflection: Native American Literature Helped me to understand the very concept of where literature came from and its history. It also helped me to grasp a new perspective of how culturally important Native Americans are to us even in the modern world.
